One of the newest cat breeds around, Ukranian Levkoy is seen predominantly in the east European country of Ukraine. Very few of these cats exist in other countries. Work on the Ukrainian Levkoy began at the beginning of twenty first century when it was felt there was a need for a cat of Ukrainian origin with a distinct appearance, particularly desirable for some breeders. After continuous efforts, finally in early 2004, first Ukrainian Levkoy kittens were born through crossing of a lop-eared male with a female Sphynx cat. Several dozen cats have been born since then and are currently registered mainly in Ukraine and Russia.
Ukrainian Levkoys have a very unique appearance. They resemble Sphynx cats but have ears somewhat like those of Scottish Folds. They are medium sized felines with a long and sleek body. Head is long and flat on top with an angular and stepped face that is almost dog-like. Eyes are big, almond shaped and occur in a variety of bright colors. Distinguishing feature of these elegant cats is their ears that are folded frontally downward. In fact Ukrainian Levkoys derive their name from the Levkoy plant, that has bent leaves, owing to their ears. Tail and legs are long and paws are oval in shape.
The other striking feature of these stylish cats is their coat. They have a thick and elastic skin and is often wrinkled if the cat is not in a fully stretched position. It is even said to be excessive over certain body parts. Hair are either very short and coarse, with uniform or patchy distribution, or entirely absent.
Not much is understood about Ukrainian Levkoys at present to indicate the presence of any hereditary medical condition in their lines. They are healthy and active cats and are said to be leading a normal life with the handful of breeders and families they are with at this point in time.
With the exception of a few true lovers of cats, Americans have always been less particular about the origins of their cats and their dogs. Cats are most commonly seen on farms and they worked to help keep the vermin population. As cats are becoming more of a companion of a firm hand, there was a growing interest cat breeds, their purity and pedigree. The Cat Fanciers’ Association is dedicated to the preservation of race and race 39 recognized cat breeds. Maine Coon – The Maine Coon is a large cat, Native American longhair cat. He is venerated in hand to the mouse of his talent. The Maine Coon is a social animal that is particularly good for families with children or dogs.
Abyssinian-Although the name suggests that this cat is from Ethiopia (formerly Abyssinia), they are actually in India. The name “Abyssinian” came about when the cat was introduced in England by way of Abyssinia. Abyssinian is one of the most intelligent cats, and even if they are not “hug”, they love their people, are curious and want to help you with what you are working.
American Wirehair – American Wirehair was seen in New York in 1966. The only cat was a spontaneous mutation in a litter of barn cats. Health is a relatively common genetic mutation, but the difference with the American Wirehair is because its characteristics have been organized in a unique way an effort was made to keep his blood and genetic model. Interestingly, this genetic mutation did not appear anywhere in the world other than the United States. The American Wirehair is docile and calm temperament and a great pet for a so-called “couch-potato.”

devon rex molting for winter? Hi there,This is pretty bad.You need to take him to the Vet right away because this might be either a sever case of ringworm or MANGE!!
I have a gorgeous devon boy who seems to be currently molting. He’s lost most of his hair around his neck and around his sides. We adopted him about 8 months ago so I have never seen this. Will he grow his hair back for winter or should I take him to the vet to get checked out? He is completely healthy / clean etc and looks very cute in his knitted jumpers, however it would be nice if I knew this happened to all devon rexes around winter time
Sudden hair loss can be a result of stress, though it’s usually to small areas all over the body, so it is not as noticeable. Not surprisingly, this type of hair loss is most commonly seen at the vet! If the shedding is enough to cause real bald spots, then it may be an indication of another health problem. Then its time to narrow down the possibilities. Stress can cause some cats to over groom and they end up removing far too much hair, even bruising their skin. When this happens, the stress needs to be eliminated and your vet can help with returning your cat to normal.
One of the first considerations is, has something changed within the cat’s environment, such as food, humidity levels, exposure to other animals, and so on. An allergy, especially to foods can cause a reaction in the skin or coat. An animal bite or scratch, or an insect sting can also cause bald spots and should be treated accordingly to prevent an abscess. Once those causes have been eliminated, the other causes have to be considered: parasite, bacteria, virus or fungi. Although viral and bacterial infections are rare, they can have an effect on a cat’s skin and coat. Your vet is the best person to determine what the problem is and how to deal with them specific to your cat.
