Weight loss in 3 year old Sphynx Cat?
I took my 3 year old Sphynx cat into the vet for her semi annual exam and was surprised to learn that she had lost almost 1.5lbs. We moved to a new city about 3.5 months ago and got a new kitten Sphynx to keep the our older cat’s company. Our new vet wasn’t worried about the weight loss (this was her first visit), but she definitely looks gaunt. Our vet said the combination of the new house and the new kitty was likely to be the issue. The older cat has a bit of a nervous personality to begin with and continues to maintain an interest in food, though she is more lethargic and spends most of the time in bed. The kitten has had some issues with diarrhea and so is getting a lot of attention with special diets. Kitty has a more outgoing personality which is typical of the breed. As a result of my 3.5year olds annual, we did have her teeth cleaned and the blood work for that didn’t show anything unusual. My 3.5 year old looks gaunt and feels light, any thoughts on the problem?
I agree with the vet, for now.
Having a “new baby” underfoot and the move will take a little weight off a girl. LOL!
Make sure she’s eating her full ration, and not getting bumped off her food by the youngster. (they get hungry and excited, and babies don’t know about “yours and mine”.)
If she hasn’t put the weight back on in, say a month or 2, go back for more blood work.
Sometimes it takes a while for problems to show up on tests.
